MMTA Student Achievement Testing (SAT):

Honors Recital:
Students who have received a score of outstanding in either SAT or Federation are invited to participate in this event.  The Honors Recital is an opportunity for students to perform and teachers to showcase those students interested in a public performance.  The Honors Recital takes place in late spring at Steinway Gallery in Commerce Township.
  •      To enter a student, you must be a member in good standing (dues up to date and attended a minimum of three general meetings during the previous twelve months).
  •      This performance will include solo/duet performances only.
  •      Each teacher may enter three students/or three events. Students have participated in SAT/Federation during that year.  The fee is $10 per student.
  •      Teachers are to write one check to LAPTF to cover the admission fees.

Outreach Recital:
Outreach recitals are an opportunity for students and teachers to give back to the community. The recital provides music for a public audience, such as assisted living, nursing home, an open venue such as the mall or a service project.  Students can use this for community service.  Different locations will be identified and teachers are encouraged to sign students up.

  •      To enter a student, you must be a member in good standing (dues up to date and attended a minimum of three general meetings during the previous twelve months).
  •      No audition required.  However standard recital performance is expected.
  •      Different locations will be identified and teachers are encouraged to sign up several of their students.

Award For Piano Performance Excellence APPE:
Each Teacher may enter five students.  Each student will be entered in one of four divisions.

Lower Elementary…………Grades 1-3
Elementary…………………Grades 4-6
Intermediate……………….Grades 7-9
Senior High………………..Grades 10-12

  • First place division winner is not eligible to participate in the same division two years in a row.
  • Student must play two memorized pieces form different historical periods.
  • Minimum playing time: Elementary: two minutes, Intermediate: four minutes, Senior: six minutes
  • Auditions are held at designated locations
  • Teacher must be in good standing to participate in this event.
  • There is an application fee, please contact chairperson or check google form.

Winners are required to play in a recital and encouraged to play at the LAPTF May annual business meeting.

Rockin the Keys December Fund Raiser:
Rockin the keys is a public performance in December to raise funds for The SandCastles organization provides grief support for children and families. Donations are tax deductible.  http://www.aboutsandcastles.org/

  •      To enter a student, you must be a member in good standing (dues up to date and attended a minimum of three general meetings during the previous twelve months).
  •      Students are required to raise a minimum contribution.  Please check with the chairperson.  
  •      Each student has an 8-minute maximum performance time, with no studio time limit. No audition required.  However standard recital performance is expected.
  •      Teachers must be present during their students’ performance and are encouraged but not required to introduce the student and repertoire.

Sharon Rea Summer Scholarship Program:
This scholarship is in memory of Sharon Rea who was a proponent of securing summer piano camps for all students.

  •      Teacher must be a member in good standing
  •      Student must be accepted to camp before applying for scholarship.
  •      Funds will be sent directly to camp.
  •      Students are not eligible to receive a scholarship consecutively. Students are eligible every other year.

The past President is the contact person regarding the scholarship program.

Sharon Rea Scholarship Program – tax deductible donation
Sharon Rea a long serving member encouraged all students to attend a piano summer camp.  Regardless of income level, she was determined to make summer camps available to all students that showed an interest.  In Sharon’s memory we established a tax deductible scholarship fund to continue her vision of supporting students with summer camp scholarships.  Please donate to our scholarship fund.  Mail checks to our treasurer:  Linda Budge 1049 Dewey, Plymouth, MI 48170.  For questions please email livoniapft@gmail.com.

The NFMC Federation Festivals provide young musicians (through age 18) and adults (age 19 and above) opportunity and encouragement for continued musical growth. Entrants do not compete against each other, but are rated on individual merits. The festivals are for musicians at all levels of capability, not just the exceptionally talented. Please contact the local chair for further information and guidelines.
