MMTA SAT
Student Achievement Testing
SAT is an assessment tool designed by and available to members of the Michigan Music Teachers Association. This exam is administered annually for students K-12. There are 13 levels and 5 categories in which students prepare:

Performance - repertoire requirements dependent upon level

Aural Awareness - hear / identify intervals, musical patterns, and melody playbacks

Technique - technical skills, e.g., scales, arpeggios, intervals, chords
-
Sight Reading - transposition, harmonization, rhythm reading skills

Theory - written theory, definitions, forms, musical analysis, and history
LAPTF
The Honors Recital
Students who receive a score of Outstanding in either SAT or Federation of the current year are invited to participate in the annual Honors Recital. This is an opportunity to showcase those students interested in a public performance. The event is held in late spring at the Steinway Gallery.

To enter a student, you must be a member in good standing

Solo or duet performances only

Each teacher may enter up to three students or three events

Fee is $15 per student, payable online or by check

Community Outreach
Outreach Recitals allow students & teachers to give back to the community. The recital provides music for a public audience in unique venues, e.g., assisted living and nursing homes, cultural events, shopping malls, service projects. This experience counts toward community service hours as well as providing performance opportunities.
Teachers are encouraged to identify prospective events in their area and submit them to the LAPTF Committee Chair.
The teacher must be a member in good standing. No audition required, however standard recital performance is expected.
Teachers may register several students for these events

Charity Fundraiser
LAPTF is pleased to hold a yearly fundraiser, Rockin' the Keys, in support of Sandcastles Grief Support Program for Children and Families each December. Donations are tax deductible and the Charity & Outreach Committee Chair is available for more information.

A minimum donation is required to participate

Each student is allotted a 5-minute maximum performance

No audition required, however standard recital performance is expected

Teachers must be present during their students’ performance and are encouraged to introduce the student and repertoire
LAPTF
Sharon Rea Scholarship Program
This scholarship is awarded in memory of Sharon Rea, a proponent of securing summer piano camps for all students.

Teacher must be a member in good standing

Student must be accepted to camp before applying for scholarship

Funds are sent directly to camp

Students are not eligible to receive a scholarship 2 consecutive years, but are eligible every other year

National Federation of Music Clubs
Annual Festival & Competitive Events
Since its founding in 1898, NFMC has become the largest nonprofit organization in America to promote and support American music, performers and music education.
NFMC brings together music clubs, organizations, and individuals to encourage, develop, and maintaining high artistic standards. They support community service and education through music and the allied arts. Additionally, NFMC promotes American music and American artists throughout the US and abroad.

In addition to Student Achievement Testing (SAT), MMTA also offers a variety of programs including their Concerto Competition and State Conference.

In an effort to encourage excellence in musical performance and to recognize excellent teaching in the Metropolitan Detroit-Ann Arbor area, Schoolcraft College sponsors 3 Festival events each year in which students have the opportunity to perform and receive evaluations from a panel of judges.

Music Teachers National Association
Education & Performance
MTNA performance competitions provide educational experiences for students and teachers and recognize exceptionally talented young artists and their teachers in their pursuit of musical excellence.
The annual MTNA National Conference brings together the most representative cross-section of the MTNA membership.
MTNA has also launched a series of webinars to provide an opportunity for continuing education for members. Topics include technology, technique, cybersecurity and more.
