Guest Presenter Natalia Kazaryan

Dr. Kazaryan’s musical performing career began at age seven with the Tbilisi State Chamber Orchestra. She holds degrees from
Juilliard and University of Michigan, and has studied in Paris with Michel Béroff under a Fulbright Scholarship. She is on the faculty of Howard University and is a board member of the International Alliance for Women in Music. “Dedicated to giving equal platform to female composers in her
public appearances, she notably curated and performed a recital of all women composers at the Smithsonian Portrait Gallery in
Washington, D.C., a performance The Washington Post named “one of the best classical concerts of the summer 2019.”

Guest Presenter Tian Tian

Associate Professor, Oakland University School of Music, Theatre,

Topic: A Creative and Comprehensive Approach to Sight Reading at the Piano

This presentation will introduce a definition of sight reading and summarize research on this topic.  It will then talk about the importance of this skill and various materials to use.  It concludes with a discussion of how to teach sight reading.  There will be information and resources for students and teachers of all ages and experience levels.

Guest Presenter: Cole Burger

Cole Burger teaches piano and related subjects at Bowling Green. State University and Lutheran Summer Music.  Dr. Burger holds degrees in piano performance and economics from Northwestern. University and the University of Texas.  His CD, Beyond the Traveler: Piano Music by Composers from Arkansas, is available on MSR Classics, and his class piano textbook, Keyboard Skills for the Practical Musician, is available from Routledge.  For more
